About
Why Ramana? My experience.
Stand with Sabapathy
Let's make our Union great again
In my time at Imperial, I’ve had the great fortune to work on many different teams with many wonderful individuals, from DepSocs and clubs to Constituent Unions. Working with a wide variety of groups has given me insight into how the Union functions, as well as provided me with the leadership and interpersonal skills required to work effectively and efficiently with others.
My experience
Working hand-in-hand with YOU
- Singapore Society ME Director - 2017/18
- AeroSoc Industrial Liaisons Officer - 2018/19
- CGCU Communications Chair - 2019/20
- ICL Rocketry Head of Marketing, Communications & Outreach - 2018/19/20
It is time for reform.
It is time for YOU to have YOUR say.
Effective & efficient room booking system
It's time we actually get the rooms we booked
The room booking system has been terribly messy over the past year, with bookings being confirmed after the intended use date, or being cancelled on the day of the event itself.
I plan to restructure the current system, implementing a dedicated team of Union officers to oversee room bookings.
Overhaul of student staff payments
Paying our student staff the London living wage
Union standards for student staff need to rise, especially considering the long hours they work.
Student staff at the Union bar are not being paid the minimum London living wage, while other student volunteers in College are offered higher rates. This has to change now.
Welfare support system
Need a safe space to talk? Or just someone who will listen?
College can be tough and tiring, both emotionally and mentally; it is not uncommon to feel stressed or burned out. Implementing a new Welfare Support System twice a term aims to provide more support in these areas. Students will be able to pick up free study packs, chat with Union officers, and learn about the support structures in place.
Graduate representation
Integrating the graduate student body with the rest of the Union
Graduate students account for almost half the student body, yet they are not fully involved in the Union's year-round activities.
I aim to bring graduate students back into the Union community, and ensure there is equal representation of all students regardless of their degree choices.
Understand YOUR concerns
Have ideas for how the Union can continue improving?
The Union should be a place that aims to constantly improve, and place the needs of the student body at the forefront.
To ensure there is stronger communication and better understanding between Union staff and students, I aim to implement a termly Union Open Day stand; students will be able to provide their feedback on the Union's activities, issues they face, and how the Union can improve to solve these and better represent the student body.
Mandatory training for ALL C&S officers
Ensure all C&S officers are well-informed about their roles before taking them on
Stepping into a new leadership role in a club or society is a new and exciting experience that comes with large responsibility.
Ensuring that all C&S officers are well prepared and attend mandatory training sessions before undertaking their roles will allow these societies to function smoother, and also allow for greater understanding between societies and the Union.
